Description

Chopin's financial situation was quite strained in 1845, threatening to derail his planned trip to Italy with George Sand. Yet even in this difficult period, he immersed himself in the atmosphere of Venice, as evident in his "Barcarolle." The piece's themes evoke the melodies of gondoliers, carried by accompanying figures that capture the rush of water and the sound of oars. Chopin took the basic idea of the strophic song and developed it into complex, captivating music, full of dynamic shifts and contrasts. Recognizing the significance of this unique work, Henle has now revised the text and is offering it separately (alongside the Chopin volume "Piano Pieces", HN 318), accompanied by extensive explanatory notes.
