Description
Vieuxtemps' fifth violin concerto in A minor is undoubtedly the best known and most popular of his seven concertos. Composed in 1860/61 as an obligatory examination piece for the violin class of his friend Hubert Léonard at the Brussels Conservatory, the concerto soon gained popularity in the concert hall. Its enduring appeal stems not only from the virtuosic solo part, but also the unusual continuous three-movement structure. Our edition features bowings for the solo part by violinist and musicologist Ray Iwazumi, who also served as the editor. The preface was written by Belgian Vieuxtemps scholar Marie Cornaz.
