Description

The "Devil's Trill" Sonata stands as the most renowned of Giuseppe Tartini's (1692–1770) violin sonatas. The newly released scholarly-critical edition reveals numerous surprises. For the first time, all extant contemporary sources have been examined to create an edition that closely resembles Tartini's lost manuscript. The solo part features various ossia passages and alternative articulation markings, while the score presents a highly playable realization of the continuo part, allowing for significant improvisational opportunities. Additionally, this edition introduces a separate part for violoncello or violone for the first time.

A comprehensive preface provides insights into the composition's origins and its subsequent reception. Furthermore, a critical report evaluates all utilized sources and offers explanations for several key passages, including the renowned trill itself.
