The primary sources of this important piece from Bach's last ten years have been reexamined by leading Bach expert Dr. Richard Jones. Many think Die Kunst der Fuge is 'difficult' because it was left incomplete upon the composer's death. Additionally, it has long been regarded as a non-keyboard piece. However, the two-stave keyboard arrangement in this revised edition makes the work accessible to students and musicians of today. The editor's extensive performance and analytical notes also contribute to its improvement. Students will be especially interested in the example graphic analysis of Contrapunctus 8, where the editor illustrates the structure of the fugue by providing a commentary alongside an annotated score. A CD recording of Richard Jones's version, featuring Davitt Moroney on the harpsichord, is included in this release.
