It is not widely recognized that in addition to his three significant sonatas for clarinet and piano, Reger composed two delightful miniatures for the same instrumentation. Concurrently, the composer aimed to connect with a broader audience through smaller works like these, which were intended for publication in music journals. Our single edition (derived from the complete collection of Reger’s sonatas and pieces HN 909, also edited by Michael Kube) fulfills this intention today: its lively Tarantella and the nuanced Albumblatt offer clarinetists and pianists an accessible entry into Max Reger’s enchanting soundscape.
