Originally written in 1907 for bass voice and piano, Maurice Ravel's Habanera has been adapted for violin and piano in this edition. The piece, inspired by a Cuban contradanza, incorporates a distinctive habanera rhythm and is typically performed with lyrics. In this arrangement, the violin takes the place of the vocal line. During the composition of Habanera, Ravel was also engaged in creating two other Spanish-influenced works: 'The Spanish Rhapsody' and 'The Spanish Hour'.
