Description
Milhaud's memories from his nearly two-year stay in Rio de Janeiro (1917-18) inspired him to create a series of poetic dances, each one reflecting the distinct allure of the city's various neighborhoods and embodying the spirit of Brazil. Drawing heavily from tango rhythms, these compositions are innovative and do not rely on traditional Brazilian folk melodies. Esteemed music historian Maurice Hinson has carefully edited this new edition of Milhaud's "Saudades do Brazil," based on the original printed version.
