Description
In February 2005, the Music Sales Group hosted a concert featuring violin music at Wigmore Hall in London to inaugurate the Wigmore Hall New Music Fund, aimed at fostering the commissioning and performance of new compositions for this prestigious international recital venue. This collection includes works performed during that event by fourteen distinguished contemporary composers, such as Philip Glass, Kaija Saariaho, and Peter Maxwell Davies, alongside world premieres from Joby Talbot, Craig Armstrong, John Tavener, and Judith Weir. The selected pieces are chosen for their accessibility, catering to a diverse range of players from elementary levels (limited to 1st to 3rd position) to shorter yet more challenging and innovative works. Collectively, this set showcases the rich variety and character present in today's leading compositions, serving as an excellent repertoire source that is both fresh and engaging. The collection features notable pieces, including "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose" (arr. Craig Armstrong), "The Ladies' Misfortune" by Bennett, and "Knee 2" by Glass, among others.
