Description
This volume encompasses all of Beethoven's extant cadenzas and lead-ins for piano concertos, including those for his own concertos Nos. 1–4, his piano arrangement of the Violin Concerto Op. 61, and Mozart's Concerto in D minor K. 466. It is likely that these works were not created for Beethoven's personal use, given his renowned improvisational abilities. It is plausible that his student and patron, Archduke Rudolph of Austria, who preserved the unpublished manuscripts in his library for many years during Beethoven's lifetime, may have encouraged him to compose these pieces. Our edition presents the musical text from the Beethoven Complete Edition, reorganized and revised for clarity.
