Description
It is nearly impossible to discern from listening that Bach's highly acclaimed concerti for harpsichord were likely his own adaptations of solo concerti originally composed for either violin or a woodwind instrument. The outer movements of the second concerto in E major, believed to have been composed around 1738, radiate with exuberance, while the expressive melodic lines of the central movement, the Siciliano in C-sharp minor, evoke the emotional depth found in his Passion music.
G. Henle Publishers offers this essential repertoire in an Urtext edition accompanied by a comprehensive commentary. The study edition (HN 7381) includes the complete orchestral score, while the piano reduction (HN 1381) features the solo part along with a highly accessible piano reduction of the score, expertly prepared by Johannes Umbreit for practical application.
