Description
Ludwig van Beethoven composed his five large piano concertos over a 20-year period. His Fourth Concerto in G major, Op. 58, written largely in 1805/06, is presented here in a piano reduction for two pianos. This Urtext edition, based on the Beethoven Complete Edition, is designed for practical use and maintains the quality expected from such a scholarly work. The second piano part includes indications of the original instrumentation to aid musical orientation. In the extensive preface, Beethoven scholar Hans-Werner Küthen discusses the unique source situation of the Fourth Piano Concerto - the only one of Beethoven's five concertos for which the autograph score has not survived. This missing autograph source motivated a particularly thorough examination of all other extant sources for this Urtext edition.
