Description
This highly virtuosic concert piece, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1863, was written specifically for his friend, the renowned Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate. The great violin virtuosos of the 19th century, including the dedicatee himself and later, most notably, Eugène Ysaÿe, captivated audiences with this work, which a music critic in 1876 described as "a kind of fantasy waltz in the Spanish manner, enchanting in its effect." Today, this piece remains a staple in the repertoire of the world's top violinists. The Henle Urtext edition represents the first-ever critical edition of this work, with the solo part annotated by acclaimed violinist Augustin Hadelich.
