Description
Carnaval exemplifies Schumann's distinctive youthful romanticism and demands a high level of musical maturity for its execution. Composed for advanced pianists, this work presents a series of vignettes that evoke the ambiance of a masked ball, featuring titles like "Arlequin," "Papillons," "Sphinxes," and "Coquette." The collection consists of 23 pieces, most of which are inspired by the notes A-S-C-H, arranged in various melodic and rhythmic patterns, with "s" representing E-flat and "h" denoting B-natural in German. The name Asch refers to a Bohemian town where Schumann had a romantic connection.
