Description
Ear training is an essential skill for musicians, often overlooked, that allows them to anticipate musical elements in both performance and composition. At the renowned Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, hundreds of students, ranging from novices to seasoned professionals, have benefited from innovative courses that employ SOLFEG (the syllables Do, Re, Mi, etc.) within a relative pitch framework centered on key signatures. The first level focuses on developing the ability to hear and transcribe melodies, rhythms, intervals, and bass lines, progressing to the identification of triads and basic chord progressions. In the second level, students advance to transcribing triad and four-part chord progressions, recognizing key changes, chromatic tones, and modal scales, while also integrating melodic and harmonic dictation.
