Description
In addition to the five renowned piano concertos, it is often overlooked that Beethoven had already engaged with this musical form during his early years in Bonn. The Concerto in E-flat major, composed in 1784, still reflects stylistic elements influenced by the works of Johann Christian Bach. Unfortunately, the original score of this concerto has not been preserved; only a revised copy of the piano part remains, which was modified by Beethoven himself. This document includes the solo piano part but lacks orchestral accompaniment. Nevertheless, during sections where the piano is silent and orchestral tutti passages occur, it features a reduction of the orchestral part for the piano. Based on the musical text from the Beethoven Complete Edition, this piano concerto can now be performed in its extant form, allowing a pianist to play without orchestral support.
