Description
The Rákóczi march, often referred to as the "Hungarian Marseillaise," originated around 1730. The march's lyrics call on Franz II Rákóczi to liberate Hungarians from Habsburg oppression. Over the years, the melody has been arranged by renowned composers like Brahms, Berlioz, and Liszt, who created a virtuosic "concert arrangement" in his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15. This Urtext edition features a knowledgeable preface by Hungarian Liszt scholar Mária Eckhardt.
