Description

Handel's "Harmonious Blacksmith" is considered one of his most renowned keyboard works. The composer was allegedly inspired to create its memorable theme when, seeking shelter from a sudden rainstorm, he heard a blacksmith singing a cheerful melody to the rhythm of his anvil. Handel later incorporated this theme and five variations as the closing movement of his Fifth Keyboard Suite, published in 1720. The work's catchy theme led to its growing popularity, even as an independent piece.

This edition relies primarily on Handel's own published version of the suite, as well as available manuscript sources, since the composer himself likely reviewed and approved the published work.
